Yesterday we had a small burst of snow so I did what every filmmaker would do and took my camera out. I got as far as my porch when I saw all our little garden birds enjoying a bit of lunch and decided to film them. I was only out for an hour but got a great range of birds coming in from our usual robin to the gorgeous gold finch. Having missed out on the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this year I thought this might make up for it. See what you think of our garden birds in Dorset enjoying the snow.

A few months ago I worked on a short film 'Indigo Brown' directed by Rikki Udagawa and written by Peter Fellows in Rikki's series of The Tales of Ponder. I was DoP/Camera Operator and had an interesting three days shot. One which took place in a studio and the other two in a very cold New Forest. The crew were fantastic with Jennie Blows on sound and Harry Lawton production Managing. They are a very talented and friendly bunch who where great to work alongside. The locations were beautiful and the story is incredibly unique and worth a watch. Today I held my exhibition for my final university film ‘Velveteen’. It is aimed at a family audience, children ages seven to ten, so kindly Colehill First School agreed to show my film to years three and four. The children and the teachers filled out my survey. Not only this but they used the film for a Health and Social Care lesson to help the children understand the main character Lewis’s mental illness and the trouble his mother had at home. The survey was to find out if the children had understood the story. Questions were therefore included about these issues to see whether the audience response met these anticipations. I was so pleased with the results as the 60 children and teachers really enjoyed the film. They understood the story and liked the main characters. The children liked Rabbit and identified with Lewis as they have toy ‘best friends’. They liked Rabbit because he is ‘cute’ or they ‘liked his voice’, while others found him ‘loyal’ and ‘lovable’, and others liked the fact that ‘he loved Lewis’. Having worked for a long time on the production of ‘Velveteen’ I felt very rewarded that it got the response that it did and I cannot wait to direct my next piece. |
